Allston-Brighton Family Network

The mission of the Family Nurturing Center is to build nurturing communities where children are cherished, families are supported, and public and private policies promote healthy human development. To support this mission, the FNC works with parents and organizational providers in Allston-Brighton to coordinate the Allston-Brighton Family Network (ABFN).

The Allston-Brighton Family Network began in July, 1997, when the Family Nurturing Center received Boston Family Network funding from the MA Department of Education. At that time, there was a small amount of money that was allocated for an Allston Brighton Family Network and a group of residents and organizational partners came together to create a vision for supporting neighborhood families. Focus groups and a needs/resource assessment revealed a lack of resources for families with young children, and providers and parents came up with creative solutions. Since that time, the FNC, as fiscal and coordinating agent for the Allston-Brighton Family Network (ABFN), has worked with others to plan and implement various family support, parent involvement, and nurturing activities for Allston-Brighton families. The FNC has also worked to secure more funding to expand the programs families and organizational partners have envisioned.

ABFN is a network of parents and providers who are working together to provide resources and activities for parents and young children in the Allston-Brighton neighborhood of Boston. Through ABFN, families meet one another, learn about community resources, and support each other in the difficult job of parenting. Activities are free of charge for all families with children 0 to 4 years old who live in Allston-Brighton.
